Project Description
In 2009, I had the amazing opportunity to participate Season 1 of Stars Of Science, where I developed the concept of CarrotLines, a mobile health app to help consumers make healthier choices by scanning product barcodes.
In 2013, I relaunched the app in partnership with celebrity trainer and host of the lab 10 lbs bootcamp, Tommy Europe.
With my team, we developed a platform of over 100,000 monthly active users with over 40,000 food products, all of which ultimately catapulted the app to a “Top 10” listing in two consecutive years (in iTunes Health & Fitness category).

I led all of our PR and marketing efforts – our app garnered serious local, national, and international media coverage, including on CNN, CBC, the National Post, and the Vancouver Sun. Below is sample coverage of CarrotLines:
-
-
- Geek Speak, Wahiba Chair “CarrotLines” (Georgia Straight)
- Reality shows revolutionize Arab TV (CNN)
- CarrotLines on App Central TV
- CarrotLines on Breakfast TV
-
In addition to participating in Stars Of Science (where I was selected as a top 16 candidate amongst 5,600 and won $10,000), I received several awards for my entrepreneurial achievements, including:
- BCIC MBA Access to Commercialization Scholarship ($15,000)
- Entrepreneurship @ Wavefront ($10,000)
- Palme D’Or by Foundation Club Avenir
- New Ventures BC (Top finalist)
While raising external funds was a challenge, I was able to secure around $300K from grants (NRC IRAP) and competitions.
But the best part? The community we built and what I learned founding CarrotLines.
