Project Description
My research interests involve innovative teaching techniques which can help to promote community building, student engagement, and media literacy. I’m especially passionate about using educational technologies in a way that does not compromise the human touch, particularly in online and Hybrid environments; e.g. How to make e-learning more human and engaging using tech and empathy.
Currently, I’m working on two research projects sponsored by University Canada West, including:
A Twitter Study: A Mixed methods study to assess the benefits and barriers of using X as a teaching and learning tool in Hybrid environments. The study, initiated in spring 2024 and sponsored by Tweetbinder, involves undergraduate international students taking Tiers 1-4 communications courses at UCW. Students participate in a structured Twitter activity with their peers and instructors. At the end of the term, they can share their experience in an optional survey. KPIs such as # of tweets, contributors, and impressions are collected using Tweetbinder.
